The DEKA Smartxide DOT Laser is a breakthrough in skin resurfacing devices. The older fully ablative lasers took months to heal and could not be used on the neck or chest. The Gold Standard today for non-surgical skin resurfacing is the fractional (partially ablative) CO2 laser. DOT, or Dermal Optical Thermolysis, works by creating thousands of very tiny columns of vaporized tissue surrounded by untreated skin. The influx of fibroblasts caused by the thermolysis lays down new collagen and elastin, tightening the skin and giving it a more youthful appearance and texture. This is apparent within several weeks, continues for months, and lasts for years. Because most of the skin is untreated, recovery is relatively short (5 to 10 days).
